What Are The Calgary Flames? The Flames get the crucial win in Game 5 by storming back in the third period
The team was founded in 1972 as an expansion franchise and has won one championship title. The Flames relocated to Calgary from Atlanta, Georgia, known as the Atlanta Flames, until 1980, when they moved to Canada.
As a member club of both the National Hockey League (NHL) and Western Conference’s Pacific Division, they compete against seven other teams within their division, including Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks, and Los Angeles Kings, to name a few!
The Calgary Flames won 3-2 over the Avalanche in Game 5, clinching the series at four games to 1. The win came after a furious third-period comeback from the Flames, who scored twice within five minutes of each other.
The crowd was buzzing with excitement as they watched their team come back from being down 2-0 early on in the game; fans were jumping up and down, clapping their hands together and screaming for their favorite players.
The game started with an emotional tribute to former player Joe Sakic who tragically lost his life just last week due to complications from cancer treatment.
In honor of Joe’s memory, both teams wore special jerseys that had his number on them instead of their regular numbers during warm-up rituals before puck drop (see picture). The Avalanche went first, so all eyes were on how well they did this night.
