Olivia Coleman

How do you know that you’ve attained “national treasure” status? Well, a set of betting markets around your next move might be a good indication.

British actor Olivia Colman is loved by both critics and the public. Originally best known for her roles in comedies like The Office and Peepshow, Colman has become increasingly associated with dramatic roles, culminating in her surprise best actress win at this year’s Oscars for her performance as Queen Anne in The Favourite.

Next up, she is taking over from Claire Foy playing another queen, this time the current monarch, in the latest season of Netflix’s international hit The Crown. Colman will be playing the middle-aged Elizabeth between the 1960s and 1980s.

Now firmly established as one of the leading actors of her generation, interest is peaking in what Colman will do now. Addressing that interest, Betway has opened up a series of betting markets around the next stage in her career.,

Colman’s Next Step

According to the bookmaker, Colman is most likely to appear in the next James Bond film, with odds given there of 5/2. That her success is recognised by the British establishment also appears likely: Betway is offering 7/2 that Colman is awarded a damehood in 2020.

Further down the list, the odds of her being named as the next Dr Who are 8/1. However, though she might have once been an excellent choice for that role, she is surely now too famous and successful to be tempted. Similarly, the chances of her participating in Strictly Come Dancing this year seems highly unlikely and are given at 14/1.

That she might actually be the next James Bond is at 20/1, repeating her Oscar success next year is at 33/1, and that she chooses to appear on the next series of I’m a Celebrity is a 50/1 longshot.
