After months of rumour, counter-rumour and confusion, it seems we might finally be close to finding out just who will be the next lucky actor to take on the iconic role of James Bond.
According to bookmaker Coral, Bodyguard actor Richard Madden is now 2/1 favourite to land the part, with Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston at 5/1. Former favourite Cillian Murphy is at at 6/1, with Damian Lewis now an outsider at 10/1.
Madden “Clear Favourite”
According to Coral’s John Hill, Madden’s popularity has surged recently and that “following a flurry of bets… he is now the clear favourite for the role,” said Coral’s John Hill.”
Madden, of course, has refused to comment on the speculation, other than to say that it was “really flattering to be in the conversation.”
Richard Madden would certainly seem to be an ideal fit. Well-known without being world famous, young enough to stay in the role for a decade and, thanks to his work on Game of Thrones and Bodyguard, comfortable with the physical challenges that go along with playing Bond. Of course, being handsome and Scottish doesn’t hurt either.
His name has also been consistently linked with the soon to be vacant tuxedo. At this point it may be simply a matter of time before Barbara Broccoli makes it official.
