Though the early favourites to win this years’ Oscars for best actor and actress, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, and their performances in A Star Is Born, have been largely ignored this awards season. Gaga has seen her claim slip behind Glenn Close and Olivia Coleman, while Cooper has been soundly overtaken by Remi Malek and Christian Bale.
However, they are both still very much in the running for one prestigious award: the Grammy for Song of the Year. Bookmaker Paddy Power has the Hollywood duo odds-on favourites at 4/7 to scoop the prize on February 10th. Their song, “Shallow”, features prominently in A Star is Born and became a worldwide hit last year.
One each for Gaga and Gambino?
Second favourite, at 3/1, is Childish Gambino for “This is America”, while “God’s Plan” by Drake is third at 17/2.
Song of the year is one of the most important categories in the Grammy Awards and aims to reward the best-written song of the year. As such, it is given to the song’s writers. Record of the year, by contrast, considers the song’s performance and production, the experience as a whole, and is given to the song’s performer.
In the latter category Childish Gambino is maintaining his lead with odds of 4/9, ahead of “Shallow” at 11/4.
