The contestants for “I’m a celebrity… Get me out of here!” have been confirmed, and it’s led to profound changes in the odds for who will be crowned king – or queen – of the jungle.
I’m a Celebrity producers often keep a few names in reserve to be released in the final week to help build anticipation for the show. Generally these are the more famous names, and sure enough, their addition has altered the betting.
As reported earlier in the week, Sair Khan was the early favourite with bookies offering 6/1 on a win by the Coronation Street actress. Khan has now dropped to 12/1 at William Hill, with six contestants favoured above her.
The new favourite is James McVey, singer for the Vamps. McVey is priced at 7/2 at William Hill and 4/1 by Coral. Also highly favoured is actor John Barrowman, another contestant who has been added during the last few days and is notably more famous than many of the other celebrities.
One of the biggest movers is Emily Atack. Atack started the week as a relatively obscure actress, but her willingness to have her photo taken in a bikini, and play along with familiar narratives that she will be heading to the jungle “looking for love”, have raised her profile considerably. The odds of an Atack win have been cut from 8/1 to 5/1.
Also new to the lineup is TV personality Noel Edmonds. He and football manager Harry Redknapp are rumoured to be the highest paid celebrities ever to appear on the show. Though certainly among the most well known of the contestants, both are around 70, wealthy, and at the end of their careers. A win would make little difference to their lives so they may be less motivated to push themselves through the trials necessary to emerge victorious. Edmonds is priced at 12/1, with Redknapp at 10/1.
