It’s fair to say that Cristiano Ronaldo’s start to the 2022 season has been nothing but monstrously uneventful. The Portugal superstar has been a benchwarmer for most matches ever since Ten Hag took over the reins of Manchester United as their manager. It’s very difficult for his fans worldwide to see the player who has been an example of consistency and performance for more than a decade at the highest level of football can’t even start for his club suddenly.

Ronaldo hasn’t been able to find a spot in this new system that Ten Hag deploys. The Dutch manager likes using pacy players up top, and Ronaldo, at the age of 37, can’t provide that fast break ability as good as the likes of Sancho, Elanga, and Antony can do.

Cristiano Ronaldo Tried To Leave In Summer Transfer Window

It’s very clear that Cristiano is not a first-choice player for Ten Hag and this Manchester United side. The former Real Madrid player tried to leave the club in the summer transfer window at the start of the season but couldn’t because of a lack of suitors and some technicalities with Manchester United.

Chelsea was interested in signing the forward in the summer after sending out Lukaku on loan to inter. But Thomas Tuchel couldn’t get the approval of the Chelsea higher-ups for the striker’s move to Stanford bridge. Other than Chelsea, there weren’t any compelling offers that Ronaldo could choose.

After not being able to land a move this summer and clearly understanding that he is not part of the plans of Teg Hag at Manchester United, Ronaldo is keen on pushing a move away from the English club in the January transfer window. Bayern is a promising destination for the Portuguese star as the German club is still looking for a short-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

Finding a different club would be the best plan for Cristiano right now because he doesn’t have many years left, and wasting time on a team’s bench would be detrimental to the final years of his career.

Lionel Messi Delaying Contract Talks

The entire world was in tears when Lionel Messi left Barcelona in 2021. Messi went to another league for the first time in his career, and the move came along with many expectations considering his standards. However, the expectations were rather unfulfilled.

But after his rather disappointing first season at Paris Saint Germain, Lionel Messi has started the 2022 season exceptionally well. The Argentine is currently the highest assist provider in Europe’s top 5 leagues and has 9 goal contributions in 7 games.

The former Barcelona player has been in tremendous form this season and has been lighting up the Ligue 1 and the likes of Neymar and Mbappe. the way the Parisian front three is performing season, coupled with a very successful transfer window, PSG is a huge favorite for winning the Champion’s league this season.

His performance this season has been a clear statement to all his doubters that the subpar last season was just a fluke and the little magician is still worthy of being called one of the world’s best.

Messi’s current contract with the Parisian club will run out in the summer of 2023, and it’s still undecided whether he will stay at PSG. The way he has been continually delivering master-class performances this season, the PSG board is looking forward to offering an extension to the Argentine superstar.

However, Messi still hasn’t decided about the extension because the possibility of returning to Barcelona is also on the horizon.

Spending the last few years of his exceptional abilities in Barcelona before age becomes a hindrance in performing at the highest stage is a viable option for him right now. PSG will be hoping to tie down Lionel Messi with an extension for another year or so, but the final decision will be taken by Leo’s camp.

The Barcelona legend deserves a proper end to his magical tale in the Catalan city. It’s where it all started, the mystical little man taking over the pitch day in and day out and making the world stand up in absolute awe. Therefore, it should be the place where this story reaches a beautiful ending.
