Newcastle All Set To Sign Real Sociedad Striker Alexander Isak
Newcastle has smashed all their previous signing records as they are reportedly agreed to match the sum demanded by Real Sociedad to release its striker – Alexander Isak.
Newcastle United Sign Alexander Isak For £70M
The English club has agreed to a record deal of £70 million plus £5 million extra based on performance. It’s a record sum that Newcastle has agreed for a transfer.
Before that, Newcastle’s most significant transfer was of Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon, which took place in January for a record sum of £42m. The Magpies will secure the services of Alexander Isak, who is already undergoing his medical examination.
As per the reports, once the 22-year-old Swedish international striker Alexander Isak is done with his medicals, he will join the team and be part of the squad for the upcoming game. The English side was also looking for a right winger and was reported to have zeroed in on Moussa Diaby.
But the deal was stalled by Leverkusen, demanding an unprecedented sum of £60m. However, they instead went with Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak for a record-breaking deal. With Isak, the Magpies expect to bolster their attacking options, given Wilson’s constant struggle with injuries. Even now, Callum Wilson is awaiting the results of his hamstring scan.
Who Is Alexander Isak?
A few days before the summer transfer window was due to close, Newcastle began its hunt for a new striker capable of giving strength to their attack and securing heaps of goals for the team. The search ended with the 22-year-old Real Sociedad striker, Alexander Isak.
Isak came into the limelight with a Borussia Dortmund 8 million euros dealt in 2017. But the best moment of his career came when he joined the Spanish club Real Sociedad in 2019.
In the 20/21 season, Isak scored 17 goals, averaging about one goal every two matches. Moreover, he went on to become the champion of Copa del Rey. Despite the promising initial season, the Swedish striker couldn’t repeat his performance in the 21/22 season, where he could grab only six goals, averaging around one goal in every five matches.
A Deal That Stunned Everyone
The way the Newcastle, Real Sociedad deal went stunned everyone. It also establishes the English club as a major player in the European transfer market. They have the financial firepower and compelling sales pitch to woo some of the best talents across Europe. The speed with which the deal has come to fruition may even surprise Isak and his teammates at Real Sociedad.
The player was expected to remain with La Liga following the closure of the summer transfer window. Now he is on his way to joining the English club and will have his first taste of the English premier league.
Newcastle is expected to sign one more player before the transfer window deadline. Moreover, there could be a few departures, too; therefore, expect jam-packed final days of the current transfer window. The club’s financial strength and lingering concern over the uncertainty regarding Callum Wilson’s pushed them to seek a possible alternative.
The deal went smoothly, and Newcastle agreed to match the whooping sum to bring the Swedish striker to its side. Even though the club officials have repeatedly stated that Newcastle is committed to bringing in a balanced squad, it’s remarkable how speedily this particular deal went through.
According to the sources, the Magpies approached Real Sociedad with an offer of around £40 million, which the Spanish club outrightly rejected, citing the player as worth more than that. After several rounds of negotiations, their follow-up offer of £70 million with an additional £5 worth of add-ons and a 10% of the future sale was accepted by Real Sociedad. The young striker will vastly benefit from the deal and get a pay raise after signing a five-year contract.
What Newcastle Hope From Isak?
Eddie Howe will undoubtedly expect the young striker to repeat his performance in the initial year at Real Sociedad. Given the humongous sum that Newcastle agreed upon, they surely hope they could hugely benefit from Isak. He has all the qualities to be a top-notch player.
He is only 22 and certainly has a lot of growth potential must have been on management’s mind while signing the deal. Besides, his speed, physicality, and ability to take charge are major assets, and Newcastle will hope to hone them further and use them to their advantage.
However, Isak will arrive at Newcastle in a position that directly challenges one already established player – Callum Wilson. He is himself an extraordinary striker, although prone to injury. His recent calf injury against Manchester City this Sunday is expected to prevent him from joining the team for about a month. In any case, Isak, together with Wilson, will give depth to the Newcastle attack and allow Eddie Howe several options to experiment with.
