Under the Heaven’s Banner Trailer

Under the Banner of Heaven’s trailer opens with a cop who can’t keep it together while photographing evidence at a violent crime scene. Daisy Edgar-Jones portrays Brenda Lafferty, a mother of a 15-year-old daughter who is the focus of this crime drama set in 1984.

Jeb Pyre’s investigation into the murder leads him to a fundamentalist Latter-day Saints sect, according to the limited series’s plot. In the process of trying to uncover the terrible secrets of religious fundamentalism, Pyre, a Mormon, begins to question his own faith. One minute and 57 seconds into the film’s trailer, it’s clear that this village is a little too quaint for the crimes that are taking place.

Along with Sam Worthington and Wyatt Russell, the film stars Ron and Dan Lafferty as the men convicted of killing Brenda and her daughter, Erica. Under the Banner of Heaven was written and directed by Dustin Lance Black, who also served as executive producer. In 2008, he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for his work on the Oscar-nominated film Milk. While working on the Barack and Michelle Obama-produced Higher Ground Productions film Rustin, Black also served as a writer and producer.
