Yesterday evening the English women’s football team defeated much-fancied Norway in some style, winning 3-0 in Le Havre. This likeable and talented team is drawing record numbers to the sport, and its leading members are becoming superstars.
Integral to the English team’s success is Lucy Bronze. The right back is a key part of this team’s defense and attack, and she capped a terrific performance last night with a superb goal. Described by Phil Neville as “the best player in the world”, the England manager stressed that “she should win the Ballon D’Or 100%… There’s no player like her.”
Depending on the result of tonight’s qualifying match, the Lionesses will face either France or the USA in the semi-final in Lyon. Whoever they play, Bronze should feel at home: she plays her club football in that city for the French champions.
BBC Sports Personality of the Year Value Bet
However, though the public are noticing the team’s exploits, oddsmakers are lagging. Bronze is currently a remarkably long 25/1 with William Hill to win the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year award. Should she add a World Cup win to this year’s French and European Championships, those odds will surely move to low single figures.
Among her teammates, England captain Steph Houghton is still available at 14/1.
