The 2019 Formula One season does not start until March of next year, but bookies have already installed a clear favourite to win the championship. A sixth world championship for British racing driver Lewis Hamilton is now being priced at odds-on, available at 5/6 with both William Hill and Paddy Power.
Hamilton has won four of the last five driver championships, and is widely considered to be the best driver of his generation.
Ominously for the rest of the pack, he still feels he has space to improve. “I have been able to be a better me all year long,” he said, “and that is never going to stop. I am going to continue to try and work on that.”
Late Season Momentum
Despite clinching the 2018 championship at the Mexican Grand Prix in late October, Hamilton has shown no sign of easing up. His win at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend means that he has won the season’s final two races. Both his fans and the Mercedes team will hope that he continues that momentum into next year.
His Ferrari rival Sebastian Vettel is second favourite for the championship, being offered at 7/2 by William Hill and 11/4 by Paddy Power. Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing is third favourite at 4/1.
