It may be that bookmakers, like much of the media, have been distracted in recent days by the deaths of John McCain and Aretha Franklin.
Or it may be that everyone has been taking advantage of those events – if that’s the correct description – to catch their breath from what has been a relentless series of developments at the White House in recent weeks.
Odds on Trump Failing to Finish First Term Begining to Look Generous
Whatever the case may be, the current odds on Trump not seeing out his first term as US president are beginning to look decidedly generous for those who share Cenk Uygur’s analysis on the US Department of Justice’s decision to grant immunity to Allen Weisselberg.
As a reminder, Weisselberg is the Chief Financial Officer of the Trump Organisation and the man who has been handling the Trump family’s accounts since the 1970’s.
“It’s already over, it’s just a matter of when he leaves office,” says Uygur, in his commentary on the latest edition of The Young Turks. His argument is that, since Michael Cohen – Trump’s lawyer – has himself already pleaded guilty to cooking the books in relation to hush money paid by Trump to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal during the 2016 presidential campaign, Weisselberg’s own testimony to that same effect – whilst not without value – is unlikely to have been enough to have earned him immunity.
In other words, there appears to be a very strong chance that the man who has been handling Donald Trump’s finances for the last three decades is about to sing. And if that’s the case, the current odds being offered by Betfair (9/5) are beginning to look particularly attractive.
