In a sign of how much the Premiership has changed in recent years, the once mighty Manchester United are now being quoted at 6/1 by Paddy Power to beat their great rival Liverpool FC in today’s match. Liverpool’s odds of winning are being given at 8/15, with a draw at 3/1.
With 42 points, Liverpool currently sit in second place in the Premier League table and a win today would see them go top. They are the only team in England’s four top divisions to have not lost a league match so far this season.
By contrast, Manchester United seem stuck, sitting in 6th place and already 16 points behind leaders and near neighbours Manchester City. Though manager Jose Mourinho is yet to officially concede the title, Paddy Power puts the odds of Manchester United winning the league at 500/1. Should United lose today then even 4th place, and a spot in next season’s Champions League competition, may be out of reach.
Does Klopp have Mourinho’s Number?
Though Mourinho is something of a specialist in winning the big games that really matter, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has come out on top most times their teams have faced each other. Borussia Dortmund’s 4-1 defeat of Real Madrid, as masterminded by Klopp, was one of the factors leading to Mourinho losing his position with the Spanish superclub.
If the bookies are to be believed then he may soon face a similar situation at Manchester United. Mourinho remains the bookies’ choice for the next Premier League manager to be sacked with Paddy Power currently quoting odds of 9/4. Should United lose today, those odds will get even shorter.
