“Our customers, Liverpool fans or not, are backing the Reds as if they will never lose again,” says Rupert Adams, spokesman for Williamhill, as he explained why the bookmaker has now decided to slash its odds on the Reds going unbeaten over the 2018-2019 season.

Those odds, priced at 33/1 only last week and identified by some analysts as a strong value bet, have now been slashed to a relatively stingy 20/1 as the Reds cruised to a 3-0 thrashing of Southampton at the week-end.

Defensive Frailties Addressed

Liverpool have conceded only two goals in their first six premiership games. Klopp finally appears to have built a team whose previous defensive frailties have now been addressed, thanks in part to a string of sterling performances from record signing Virgil van Dijk.

The Liverpool manager had previously been the target of criticism for what was seen by many as prodigal spending at the back. The German has spent over £150 million in 2018 alone addressing the team’s defensive issues, with two lone signings -goalkeeper Alisson (signed for a world record £63m) and van Dijk (another world record fee for a defender at £75m) – accounting for the lion’s share.

However, having won every game played so far this season, Klopp is man of the moment – and his team has emerged as a punters favourite for the season ahead.
