Odds on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finishing the season as the English Premier League’s top scorer have fallen from an initial quote of 13/1 in early August to 6/1 as the season closes out its first half in the lead up to Christmas.
The drop in odds is the largest such fall observed for any player who had appeared in the initial top ten of pre-season favourites for the EPL’s Golden Boot.
Aubameyang, who joined Arsenal in 2017 and scored 10 goals in his first season with the club, has been something of a revelation for the Gunners in the current 2018/2019 season, having scored the same number of goals at the mid-way stage.
The 29 year-old, who is arguably producing the best football of his career at the moment, currently leads the goal-scoring charts alongside last season’s top scorer, Mohammed Sala, who is also currently on 10 goals before heading into tonight’s match with Wolves.
Salah and Kane Retain Bookies’ Favourites Status
Despite Aubameyang’s rising star, however, the bookies are keeping with Harry Kane – who is currently on nine goals – as their outright favourite on 5/2 to finish the season at the top of leader board, with Mohammed Salah just behind on 3/1.
Whilst Kane and Salah had been quoted at pre-season odds of 4/1 and 5/1 respectively, both men have had much slower starts in the current campaign in relation to the last, each having been involved in a World Cup that will have done little to help with recovery over the summer.
With Arsenal facing a slightly easier fixture list over the Christmas period, however, and with both Tottenham and Liverpool facing the impending demands of Champions League football in the new year, there may yet be more scope for Aubameyang to consolidate his claim as Pretender to the Throne.
