English actor Tom Hiddleston is back as the bookies’ favourite to be the next actor to play James Bond, with William Hill offering the English actor at 7/4. Ever since current 007 Daniel Craig confirmed that the next Bond film will be his last, speculation has been rampant over who will take over one of the most iconic roles in cinema.
Hiddleston has been a perennial among the favourites ever since his impressive performance in the Night Manager. However, last November he slipped in the running as rumours spread that the role had been all but offered to Scottish actor Richard Madden. As that offer has failed to materialise, Madden has slipped from 11/8 to 11/4, despite a ringing endorsement from his Bodyguard co-star Keeley Hawes. “I would love to see Richard playing James Bond; I would love that,” she told the Radio Times, “I think he would be phenomenal.”
“Very Humbling Speculation”
Also in front of Madden is James Norton at 5/2. Norton is best known for his television work in Happy Valley, War and Peace and McMafia. On the rumours linking him with the soon-to-be-vacant role of James Bond, Madden said that “there’s an inevitable amount of speculation. But that’s all it is – speculation. Very flattering, very humbling speculation.”
Meanwhile, a survey of 3,000 British cinema goers has revealed that if it was up to the public then Idris Elba would get the job. A fifth of all respondents chose the Luther star, while 17% favoured Tom Hardy. Just 7% plumped for Hiddleston.
