Just two weeks ago betting markets seemed pretty clear on who would be the next actor to wear the Batman cape, with Jake Gyllenhaal a clear favourite at 3/1. Suddenly it’s all change, and Armie Hammer is the new hotly tipped choice at 11/4 with William Hill.
Hammer is best known for playing both Winklevoss twins in the Mark Zuckerberg biopic the Social Network. Since then he has had success as a stage actor and in the highly acclaimed gay love story Call Me by Your Name. However, he is very far being famous enough to be linked to roles as iconic as the Caped Crusader.
Rumours and Denials
Nevertheless, rumours began to appear this week that not only was Hammer being considered for the part, he was actually in final negotiations with the studio.
Hammer has done his best to distance himself from the rumours. The actor told Yahoo that, “no one who can actually give me the job has asked me if I’m interested,” adding that “no one has checked my availability, which is a bummer.”
While such denials are customary and even contractually enforced, other industry players have stepped up to scotch the rumours. Hollywood Reporter writer Borys Kit said that though both the new film’s director Matt Reeves and its studio Warner Brothers may have a preference over who they would like for the role, “there haven’t even been any actor meetings for THE BATMAN.”
I’m not in the business of debunking bunk but considering everyone got in a tizzy over this…there is no truth to the below. Being told there haven’t even been any actor meetings for THE BATMAN. (But that doesn’t mean Reeves and WB don’t have ideas of who they would like) https://t.co/8CB8aHARID

Gyllenhaal is currently second favourite at 7/2 with Robert Pattinson at 5/1.
