With excitement building over events in the Marvel Universe, in particular the upcoming Avengers: Endgame, over in the DC side of the superhero space a pressing question still needs to be resolved: just who will be the next Batman?
Previous incumbent Ben Affleck announced last year that he would be hanging up the bat-cape after three film appearances in the role. Though producers have yet to make an announcement on who will be picking up the bat(on), time is running short. The Batman is due to start shooting later this year for a 2021 release.

According to bookmaker Coral, the favourite for the next Batman remains Jake Gyllenhaal, who is being offered at 3/1. Previous favourite Armie Hammer is at 4/1, with Game of Thrones star Kit Harington at 5/1.
Though Gyllenhaal has previously distanced himself from the speculation, the rumours just won’t go away. However, much of that speculation may simply be wishful thinking on the part of fans. Gyllenhaal will be playing the villain Mysterio in the upcoming Spiderman: Far From Home. It seems unlikely that his contract with Marvel will allow such a quick move to DC.
Harington, hot from Games of Thrones, seems like a more likely choice; he is also more age appropriate for the role. Director of The Batman, Matt Reeves, is said to be looking for an actor who can convincingly play a Batman aged in his late 20s and early 30s.
