Other than a Royal Wedding, nothing quite excites the British public as much as a new prince or princess. Since the birth of Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor at least some of the nation’s questions have been answered. We have a name. We have a picture. But who will fulfil the important role of Royal godparents?
According to Paddy Power, the overwhelming favourites are Jessica Mulroney, at 1/14, and Charlie van Staubenzee at 1/7. Mulroney is a stylist celebrated in her native Canada, and a close friend of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. She previously attended the royal couple’s wedding, where her sons served as page boys and her daughter as a flower girl.
Charlie van Staubenzee is an English businessman and one of Harry’s oldest friends. It is even rumoured that the prince acted as best man at the Staubenzee wedding, albeit secretly.
The Glamour Choices
However, further down the list of candidates the names get a lot more interesting. American television personality, and well-known pal of Oprah Winfrey, Gayle King is quoted at 2/1 to be named as godmother. King is friendly with the royal couple and would prove a popular choice.
Most glamorous of all, though, are George and Amal Clooney, at 6/1. George shares a birthday with Archie, and though he is friends with Harry and Meghan has been keen to distance himself from speculation that he will have an official role in royal life. “You don’t want me to be a godparent of anybody,” he said, “I’m barely a parent at this point. It’s frightening.“
